Title: Insulating solid masonry walls
Subtitle:
Ref Code: GG50
Authors: C Stirling
Abstract1: Solid masonry is used in about 15% of existing houses, many of which could be thermally upgraded. Increased insulation demanded by building regulations may present technical challenges to cavity and framed construction and it may be appropriate to specify solid masonry construction for new build. This Good Building Guide highlights risks associated with solid masonry walling and provides solutions for improving its thermal performance.
