Abstract1: Severe winter conditions have seen the failure of standard types of mastic asphalt laid over thermal insulation. BRE tests show that the performance of mastic asphalt can be significantly improved by the addition of appropriate polymers. One of these tests may also have potential as a quality control test for mastic asphalts used in flat roofing.
