Summary:
British Standard 7121-4:1997 (BS 7121-4:1997) is a code of practice for the safe use of lorry loaders. The management and the planning of the lifting operation are analyzed in Sections 4 and 5, respectively. It is recommended that a rated capacity be readily available and understandable, in addition the posted rated capacity should not be exceeded. To ensure safety, it is necessary that a competent person operate the equipment and is trained using the guidelines from the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 [1}. This part of BS 7121 should be read in conjunction with Parts 1 (General) and 2 (Inspection, testing, and examination). The following personnel should adhere to all of the responsibilities and be aware of safety guidelines for their respectively duties: the operator, the slinger, the signaler, the lorry loader erector, and the maintenance personnel. It is essential that the person or persons operating the lorry should be aware of the adverse effects of a sloping ground or swing load on the load radius as illustrated in Figures 1 and 4, respectively.
