Summary:
British Standard EN ISO 9241-6 (BS EN ISO 9241-6) details specific ergonomic requirements for visual display terminals (VDTs) when used in office work. This part of ISO 9241 recommends necessary environmental conditions which enhance user comfort and performance. To this end, the basic principles of ergonomic work environment design as well as ergonomic workstation design are provided. The effects of lighting (artificial and natural), noise and mechanical vibrations, electrical and magnetic fields and static electricity, thermal environment, space organization and workplace layout are covered. However, this standard does not specify technical characteristics of equipment needed to satisfy those equipment-related guidelines associated with the work environment.
