BS 4211 details safety requirements for permanent single bar rung ladders intended to be fixed to structures such as chimneys, silos and bins. Requirements for associated platforms and safety hoops are also provided. However, this document is not intended for fixed ladders and companionway ladders used for machinery access, nor does it cover permanently fixed roof ladders. Terms and definitions are detailed as well as pertinent drawings, materials used for construction, performance requirements and safety requirements.
