Summary:
British Standard EN 280 (BS EN 280) identifies design calculations, stability criteria, construction safety, and tests for Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP) in order to detail the technical safety requirements. The purpose pf MEWPs is to move those people who are carrying work from the work platform. Some requirements are detailed for chassis, stabilizers, safety devices, hydraulic systems, and controls. Some calculations detailed are those for wire ropes, rope pulleys, and drive systems. Verification of safety is done by design checks, visual examinations, and functional tests. The loads and forces that are detailed are rated loads, structural loads, wind loads, manual forces, and special loads and forces. This standard also identifies the hazards of MEWPs and methods for the elimination of hazards.
