Summary:
BSI document BS 4515-1:2004 cites the welding procedures for carbon and carbon manganese steel pipelines on land and offshore. In this standard, non-destructive testing is a crucial aspect of any methodology. Acceptance criteria in general can be found in Table 6, but acceptance criteria for virtually all types of welds are referenced throughout the document. Table 6 also lists the fractions of the total length of the weld of toe-to-toe sections and flaws. The length of weld affected depends on the specifications in this table. Most criteria mandate that flaws not exceed 1/12th of the continuous weld length. Sections 8 and 9 include diagrams and scenarios for determining the thickness of welds in relation to pipe thickness. Section 13 requires that flaws be removed by air-arc gouging or a comparable method.
