Summary:
British Standard EN 1714:1998 describes methods for non-destructive testing (ultrasonic) of fusion welded joints. It applies to metallic materials equal to and above 8mm thick, which exhibit low ultrasonic attenuation, and it is intended for use on full penetration welded joints where both the welded and parent material are ferritic. This British Standard is the official English language version of EN 1714:1997. Requirements for personnel, equipment, and probe parameters are outlined (frequency, angles of incidence, adaption of probes to curved scanning surfaces). Equipment compliance is addressed. Testing levels, corresponding national standards, and required number of probe angles, probe positions, and scanning zone width (SZW) are also covered.
